Suicide by teenager

NEW DELHI: A teenager allegedly hanged himself to death at his Uttam Nagar residence here on Tuesday after he failed in the Class X examinations for the third consecutive year. Satish, son of a retired Army personnel, was found hanging from the ceiling by his relatives around 10-30 a.m. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Arrested

NEW DELHI: A laboratory technician with the Ambedkar Centre for Bio-Medical Research has been arrested on charges of consuming liquor in public and creating nuisance on the North Campus on Monday. The police received a call around 11 p.m. about a brawl on Vishwavidyalaya Marg. On reaching the spot, they found a man in an inebriated state. He identified himself as Mukesh Sharma, a lecturer with the Ambedkar Centre For Bio-Medical Research. During interrogation, he broke down and disclosed that he worked there as a lab-assistant.

Bootleggers nabbed

NEW DELHI: More than 50 people have been arrested from different parts of South Delhi in the past couple of days on charges of bootlegging. The police claim to have seized over 400 bottles of illicit liquor from them. Most of the arrests were made at Sangam Vihar and Srinivaspuri.

`Criminal' held

NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old alleged criminal carrying a reward of Rs. 10,000 on his head has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police. A country-made pistol and two live cartridges have allegedly been seized. Acting on a tip-off, Deepak alias Deepu was arrested at a bus stand in Wazirabad on Monday. Deepak is involved in over a dozen cases of murder, robbery and theft and under Arms Act registered in Delhi and Ghaziabad, the police said. Deepak along with his accomplice had recently killed one Sanjay over a property dispute, the police said.

Arrested for assault

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old man has been arrested at Old Mustafabad here for alleged criminal assault on a married woman. According to the police, the accused, Shoaib, was known to the victim and frequently visited her house at Indira Vihar in Mustafabad. On April 27, Shoaib visited the house when her husband was away and took her to Chamanpark in Shiv Vihar. He then allegedly criminally assaulted her at an isolated place and fled.

Passports recovered

NEW DELHI: More than 270 blank passports that had recently gone missing from Delhi airport were recovered from a garbage dump at Ghitorni here on Tuesday. The police are still searching for 33 more blank passports. As many as 500 passports sent from the Indian Security Press in Nasik to the Ministry of External Affairs here had gone missing, following which the police took up the investigation.

Found dead

NEW DELHI: A 49-year-old man working as an electrical supervisor at the Indonesian Consulate here was found dead in his Tata Indica car near his Malviya Nagar residence under mysterious circumstances on Monday night. The police suspect that he died of excessive drinking.
