Cinema raided, film seized

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Overriding a measure of dissent within the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Bangalore region, two of its advisory panel members with police assistance raided Aparna cinema that was screening a Kannada film "Romanchana" in alleged violation of the Cinematograph Act 1952 here on Tuesday.

The panel member K.G. Nagalakshmi Bai, a journalist, told The Hindu that following public complaints, she along with another panel member S. Narayanaswamy went to watch the film in question on Monday.

However, she could not watch the film even for 30 minutes as it was full of indecent and obscene scenes. Following the complaint from the Regional Officer of the CBFC on Monday, Upparpet Police assisted the panel members in the raid, arrested two persons and confiscated seven reels of the film.
