Pannian's appeal

Thiruvananthapuram: Pannian Ravindran, MP, has urged the Centre to take immediate steps to reduce the inordinate delay in getting emigration clearance. In a letter to Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi on Tuesday, he said that it took days to get emigration clearance. The delay was even threatening the job prospects of many. He demanded that adequate staff be posted at the emigration office to provide faster and better service. — Special Correspondent

Ration card renewal

Thiruvananthapuram: The application forms for renewing ration cards in the Thiruvananthapuram taluk should be collected by card-holders from the ration shops concerned before May 31, the Taluk Supply Officer has informed. — Staff Reporter

Spirit seized

Thiruvananthapuram: In raids conducted on various parts of the district, the Excise Department seized about 3,500 litres of spirit estimated at Rs.4 lakh, the Excise Commissioner said in a release here. The Excise Assistant Commissioner appealed to the public to cooperate with the department's efforts in checking illicit spirit. Information about `abkari' crimes can be given on the phone numbers, 2473149 / 94471 78053. Identity of the informants will be kept secret. — Staff Reporter

Relief measures sought

Thiruvananthapuram: The Government has failed in taking precautionary measures to prevent sea erosion in the southern coastal areas including Panathura, the former MP A. Neelalohithadas has alleged. He demanded that the Government take note of the problems faced by the people and provide adequate relief measures. — Staff Reporter

Found dead

Thiruvananthapuram: A man was found dead on the road near Model School at Thycaud at around 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Anilkumar (37), a resident of Amaravila, was taken to Medical College Hospital by the police. — Staff Reporter
