RAIN EFFECT: Dead fish floating in Ooty Lake on Wednesday.
Udhagamandalam: A large number of fish were found dead inside the Ooty lake on Tuesday and Wednesday. Following complaints of foul smell, the dead fish were buried. The Nilgiris Collector, Santosh K. Misra, said in a press note that owing to heavy rains during the last three days, storm water along with sewage had entered the lake through the Kodappamund channel. It had led to the oxygen content in the lake coming down. While the sudden change in the composition of the water had been a major cause, the heavy inflow of sewage had aggravated the situation. The waste diesel and other oils from the bus stand and workshops had also mingled with the lake water.
