News Analysis
A sentence in a report "Karthik-Jaffer, an opening pair that promises to provide stability" ("Sport", May 30, 2007) was: "Just give a thought to this piece of statistics. There are 27 first-class teams in India. That makes it 54 specialist openers; 81 per team considering there is a replacement in place." It should have been "81 in all". This relates to "This Day That Age", a selection from reports published 50 years ago. On May 26, 2007, the column carried an item "Nehru's tribute to Japan", which reported Jawaharlal Nehru speaking at a civic reception on May 24, 1957 "for the visiting Japanese Premier". Who was the visitor? No name was mentioned. All readers cannot be expected to have noticed the item in the same column the previous day, saying the Japanese Prime Minister, Mr. Nobusuke Kishi, arrived in Delhi on May 23, on a two-day visit.
