NEW DELHI: Film buffs of the Capital will get a peek into the life and culture of Israel when the curtain goes up on Israeli Film Festival here this coming Monday. Brought to the city by Embassy of Israel and India Habitat Centre, the festival will showcase the diversity of the Israeli society through the works of a new generation of filmmakers. Eight Israeli films cutting across genres will be part of the festival. Documentaries and features as well as comedy and drama will bring alive the social, political and moral issues that concern the Israeli society. Israeli cinema is said to have come a long way since its beginnings in the 1950s. New filmmakers have contributed greatly to give Israel a vibrant movie culture. Now Israeli films are successful abroad and the creativity of a new generation is shedding a different light on local and universal themes. The festival, to be inaugurated by the Ambassador of Israel David Danieli, will open with the screening of the award-winning "Two States of Mind" at the Stein Auditorium. The film directed by Shira Richter tells the story of two actresses, an Israeli from Tel Aviv and a Palestinian from Ramallah who are competing in a jeep rally in Morocco as "The Peace Team". The film is all about how two women with very different personalities and from two diverse cultures learn to co-operate in order to survive. Other films that are part of the festival include "Things Behind the Sun" by Shafferman Yuval, "Aviva My Love" by Zarhin Shemi and Zvi-Riklis Dina's "Three Mothers". "Tied Hands" by Wolman Dan, "A Working Mom" by Pinhasov and Yaron Koffori, "Provence United" by Uri Inbar, Yaron Zilberman's "Watermarks" will also be part of the four-day festival.
