Closed Kerala tea plantations to be reopened

Special Correspondent

KOCHI: Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh has said the Centre will be investing up to Rs. 5,000 crore in Kerala's agriculture sector over the coming 10 years.

Mr. Ramesh was speaking after opening a `young-talents meet' held here on Wednesday as part of the golden jubilee of the Kerala Students Union.

He said the United Progressive Alliance Government had taken a lot of steps to revive the spices and plantation sectors in the State. Noting that many of the closed tea plantations in the State would be reopened soon, the Minister said this was made possible because of the steps taken by the Centre.
