A new look for Sathyaraj

CHENNAI: Sathyaraj will soon be seen as a Kathakali artist in the Tamil film "Vambu Chandai".

The elaborate make-up required to present Kerala's traditional art form meant reporting very early on the sets for Sathyaraj — at least by 4 a.m. for a 9 a.m. shoot.

Four Kathakali artists from Ottapalam in Kerala helped the actor prepare for the role. The make-up took nearly four hours, during which the actor had to lie absolutely still. Sathyaraj said he was pleased with the results. The characterisation of the Kathakali performer took four days to shoot.

For the actor, "Vambu Chandai" comes right after "Periyar". "I feel that doing different characters go into making a complete actor."

The screenplay, dialogues and the direction are by Rajkapoor.
