KANNUR: A joint meeting of office-bearers of various Chambers of Commerce in the Malabar region has called upon the Government to end demolition of buildings in the name of the ongoing drive against encroachment without giving time to produce necessary documents. The meeting, hosted by the North Malabar Chamber of Commerce (NMCC) here on Tuesday, asked the State Government to immediately suspend the dismantling of buildings. Demolition of parts of buildings using machines would weaken the structures, the meeting noted. The meeting was represented by Kozhikode Malabar Chamber of Commerce (KMCC), Vadakara Chamber of Commerce (VCC), Thalasserry Chamber of Commerce (TCC), Pattambi Chamber of Commerce (PCC) and Kanhangad Chamber of Commerce (KCC). A press release issued by the NMCC here on Wednesday said the Chambers of Commerce of Ottappalam, Palakkad, Tirur, Payyannur and Kasaragod, which did not participate in the meeting, expressed their solidarity. The Chambers in the region also decided to jointly work for the development of Malabar including railway development, proposed Thalassery-Mysore railway line, Kannur airport, National Highway development, proposed industrial estate at Cheemeni and petrochemical complex at Manjeswaram, completion of the Bekal Tourism project, expansion of the Karipur airport and, Knowledge Village proposed at Mavoor. The meeting also decided to chalk out a course of action to mobilise political consensus against hartals. Each Chamber in the region would host similar meetings once in two months.
