World anti-tobacco day observance today

KOZHIKODE: The Indian Medical Association, Kozhikode branch will organised a seminar at the IMA hall here on May 31 to highlight the ill effects of smoking, on the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day.

The topic would be `Tobacco free Kerala- Practical suggestions,' and will be in the form of lectures and question-answer sessions.

Dr. P.V. Ramachandran, Principal of Kozhikode Medical College will inaugurate the seminar.

C.M. Pradeep Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dr. Beena Johnson, Adolescents Clinic, Kozhikode, Dr. K. Kunhali, president, Heart Care Society, Dr. A.K. Abdul Khader, pulmanologist and president, IMA, Kozhikode among others would address the seminar.

The organisers said tobacco was the cause for 95 per cent of lung cancer cases, 90 per cent of cases of cancer in the mouth and 85 per cent of throat cancer. Tobacco led to 30 per cent of heart ailments.
