BANGALORE: Balkishan of R.T. Nagar Public School emerged champion in the Yahoo State under-17 chess tournament, which concluded here on Wednesday. Balkishan, who stayed unbeaten, defeated H.S. Karthik in the sixth and final round for a winning tally of 5.5 points. In the girls' section, K. Manasa bagged the title with 4.5 points and she beat Shristi J. Shetty in the fifth and final round. Shruti also tied with Manasa with 4.5 points, but the former was adjudged the champion on her better progressive score.
Final placings: Boys: 1. Balkishan, 2. Karthik, 3. G.A. Stany, 4. T.S. Phanindra, 5. P.P. Prachura, 6. M. Suraj, 7. D. Yashas, 8. Arjun R. Bharath. Girls: 1. K. Manasa, 2. K. Shruthi, 3. Prerna, 4. Shristi Shetty, 5. Pavitra Jagtap, 6. Nisha Patkar. The results: Boys: Sixth and final round: Balkishan (5.5) bt H.S. Karthik (4.5); M. Suraj (4.5) drew with G.A. Stany (4.5); P.P. Prachura (4.5) bt Arjun Anchan (3.5) ; Naren N. Kumar (4) drew with S. Vinod (3.5); Kedar Umesh Vaze (4) bt Krish Tejas Bharat (3.5). Girls: Fifth and final round: Shristi J. Shetty (3.5) lost to K. Manasa (4.5); K. Shruthi (4.5) bt Nisha N. Patkar (3); Prerana (4) bt Amrtia Suresh (3); M. Tulsi (2.5) lost to Pavitra Jagtap (3.5); D.U. Anusha (2.5) drew with T.C. Meghana (3).
