National award presented

HUBLI: The Sujala Watershed Project at Kurdikere, Dharwad, has been awarded the "National Productivity Council Award" for outstanding work in watershed development.

The award was presented by Union Minister of State for Agriculture Akhilesh Prasad Singh to Sandeep Dave, Commissioner of Watershed Development, and S.B. Biradar, district Watershed Development Officer, Dharwad, at a function in New Delhi recently, according to a release said. — Staff Correspondent

President for Hassan

HASSAN: President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will visit Hassan on June 8 to dedicate INSAT-4B to the nation from the Master Control Facility (MCF) of ISRO here. He will also felicitate scientists and give away the annual awards of ISRO.

No diversion of funds: Revanna

BANGALORE: Minister for Energy and Public Works H.D. Revanna on Wednesday said both the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) and the Animal Husbandry Department were together implementing the animal husbandry and livestock schemes sanctioned to six districts and there was no diversion of funds to the KMF as alleged by the MLA and former Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

Bill tabled

Bangalore: Union Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes on Wednesday said that a Bill has been tabled in the Lok Sabha for providing social and health security to millions of those in the unorganised sector in the country.

Inaugurating the Suvarna Karnataka celebrations organised by the Employees State Insurance Scheme (Medical Services) at the ESI Hospital here, the Minister said that special programmes would be launched for improving the living conditions of workers in the unorganised sector.State Medical Commissioner Nalini Tandon and the former president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, G.S. Siddalingaiah spoke.

HUBLI: R. Bhaskaran took charge as Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Hubli Division, South Western Railway, here on Wednesday. He belongs to the 1984 batch of Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineering, according to a release.

Training

Bidar: The Department of Backward Classes Welfare will organise airhostess and hospitality training for candidates from backward classes in Bangalore. Candidates not more than 24 years old and from families with an annual income of less than Rs. 1 lakh a year are eligible. The Government will pay the cost of the one-year training. Free lodging and boarding will be provided to selected candidates. Details and application forms are available with the district backward classes welfare officer. Filled in applications should be sent to the office of the director of backward classes welfare, Nrupatunga Road, Bangalore, before June 11, said a release. — Staff Correspondent

Farmers' meet

Bidar: The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha will hold the annual meetings in Humnabad and Basava Kalyan on June 1. Problems of sugarcane farmers, power supply issues, preparations for the next sowing, and other important matters will be discussed. State president K.S. Rally

Bidar: World Day against Child Labour will be observed in Bidar on June 12. A rally will be taken out on that day. A cultural programme will be organised in the Rang Mandir. Anti-Child Labour day will also be organised in Aurad on June 15, Bhalki (June 18), Basava Kalyan (June 20) and Humnabad (June 22). This was announced in a preparatory meeting in Bidar on Wednesday, a press release said. — Staff Correspondent
