31 more properties sealed in Capital

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Wednesday sealed 31 commercial properties operating from residential premises in the Capital.

Eighteen properties were sealed at Green Park Main in South Delhi. In Najafgarh Zone, six properties were targeted on National Highway-8 for violating mixed land use norms. Four properties were sealed in Lajpat Nagar-II. Thee properties were targeted on Gurdwara Road in Moti Nagar. A total of 1,945 premises have been sealed in the Capital since resumption of the drive on March 28.

Mock evacuation drill at airport

NEW DELHI: A mock terminal evacuation exercise was carried out at Delhi airport on Wednesday.

The exercise, carried out by Central Industrial Security Force, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, was aimed at assessing the preparedness of the staff in a crisis. Terminal 1B was evacuated within three minutes of the announcement.

"A bomb threat call was initiated during the practice at 2-10 p.m. (non-peak hours) as per standard operating procedure. This process also checks the efficacy of the contingency plans in the dynamic airport environment," said an airport official.

Man sentenced

NEW DELHI: A 58-year-old man was on Wednesday sentenced to eight-day rigorous imprisonment by a city court for smuggling foreign currencies here ten years ago. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau also slapped a fine of Rs 60,000 on the accused Majid Hassan.
