KHAMMAM: The Congress has constituted a fact-finding committee to look into illegal mining of granite by certain influential persons in the assigned lands owned by Scheduled Castes and Tribes in Khammam. The committee headed by Zilla Parishad chairperson G. Vijayalakshmi would probe mining activity taken up by a top CPI(M) leader's brother in lands thus occupied, APCC secretary and MLC Bhatti Vikramarka said here on Wednesday. He said that the panel was not aimed at targeting any individual for personal or political mileage. A report would be submitted to the party leadership which, in turn, might seek action from the Government. He said DCC president and Minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Vanama Venkateswar Rao was in touch with the party leadership on this issue. The panel will take up the work very soon, he said. The Congress leader has said that the revenue officials had conducted a probe following complaints from the farmers concerned about the illegal granite mining in their lands. The departments concerned were ready with their reports and action awaited. Meanwhile, the CPI(M) central committee member and Khammam MLA Thammineni Veerabhadram and the CPI (M) welcomed the fact finding mission of the Congress on the illegal granite mining in assignment lands in Khammam.
