KARIMNAGAR: The Sircilla police foiled a bid by Communist Party of India (Marxists) district unit leaders to occupy the assigned lands in Thangallapalli village on the outskirts of Sircilla town on Wednesday. Hundreds of CPI-M activists led by district secretary Mukunda Reddy, Sircilla secretary Pantham Ravi, CITU leader M. Ramesh and others tried to occupy the assigned lands, which were reportedly owned by former CESS (Cooperative Electric Society of Sircilla) N. Satyanarayana Goud, measuring 8 acres and 7 guntas by erecting temporary hutments. On information, Sircilla Circle Inspector P. Venugopal Rao, Sub-Inspector Nagendra Chary and a posse of armed policemen swung into action and foiled the bid. The police arrested important leaders and registered cases against 50-odd persons. Two CPI (M) leaders sustained bruises .
