BHUBANESWAR: The pass percentage in the higher secondary examination dipped significantly this year as the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) announced results of science and commerce streams here on Wednesday. The overall pass rate in Plus II science examination was put at 60.16 as against 70.37 registered the previous yearSimilarly, 69.49 per cent of students in the commerce stream were successful this year in comparison to last year's 76.65.
College's distinction
As many as 33 students made it to top 20 positions in the Plus II science examination. BJB Junior College of Bhubaneswar topped the list with 27 of its students getting into the coveted category. Sushobhan Nayak of F.M Junior College, Balasore, who secured 932 marks, topped this year's higher secondary examination. The top 33 candidates included 22 boys and 11 girls. ST students fared badly with their performance taking a plunge from last year's 50.75 per cent to 36.67 this year. Ganjam district topped the performance table with 77.30 per cent students from the district clearing the examination. BJB Junior College dominated the top 20 spots in commerce examination too with seven of its students finding a place in the slot. Jyoti Prakash Swain of Ravenshaw Junior College, Cuttack, secured the highest marks of 887. Boys again outshone the girls. As many as 15 boys were placed in the top 20 positions compared to seven girls in the commerce examination.
