CUTTACK: Veteran freedom fighter and Sarvodaya leader Sarat Chandra Moharana passed away here on Wednesday at SCB Medical College and Hospital. He was 100 years old and is survived by 90-year-old wife and freedom fighter Annapurna Moharana, a son and a daughter. Moharana, who was ailing for the past few days, was admitted at the hospital on Tuesday and the end came at 3.30 p.m. Family sources said that the mortal remains of the leader would be consigned to flames at Khan Nagar crematorium on Thursday. Born in March1908 in Balasore district, Moharana completed his schooling at Balasore and did his graduation from Ravenshaw College. He obtained his post graduation from Cuttack Training Centre. After his marriage with Annapurna, daughter of freedom fighter Gopabandhu Choudhury in 1942, he came in contact with famous freedom fighters' family. Inspired by his father-in-law and brother-in-law Manmohan Choudhury, he and his wife plunged into the freedom struggle during the Quit India movement.
