Textile unit owner not to be arrested till June 4

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A textile unit owner, wanted in connection with the Tirupur wall collapse incident in which 28 persons were killed on May 25, is not to be arrested till June 4.

When an anticipatory bail petition of P. Subramaniam came up for hearing before Justice A.C. Arumugaperumal Adityan on Wednesday, the prosecution sought adjournment on the ground that a detailed counter would be filed. The case was then posted to June 4 after the prosecution said Mr. Subramaniam would not be arrested till then. The collapse of the mill wall at Anupparpalayam Pudur killed 28 persons inside a TASMAC bar adjoining it. Bar licensee E. Kandasamy has been arrested.

In his anticipatory bail plea, Mr. Subramaniam submitted that he could not be faulted for the wall collapse, which occurred mainly due to heavy rain.

He said the bar did not have a licence, whereas the mill wall was a strong concrete structure.
