Blackout in several areas in city

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI : Several localities of the city, including Nungambakkam, Alwarpet and Nandanam, experienced breakdown in power supply in the early hours on Wednesday.

For about two hours, the areas went without power supply. The supply went off at about 2. 45 a.m. and was restored in phases.

The puncture of an insulator near Tondiarpet triggered the tripping of power lines from the North Chennai thermal power station to Tondiarpet, to which Mylapore was linked, according to an official.

For restoring the supply in the affected areas, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board arranged power supply from an alternative source.

Around 11-30 a.m., the power lines from North Chennai to Tondiarpet resumed functioning, the official added.
