Two-wheelers destroyed in fire
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI
: Three two-wheelers parked in a residential apartment complex on Nungambakkam High Road were destroyed in a fire in the wee hours on Wednesday.
Police said the watchman of the complex noticed thick smoke billowing from the vehicles and raised an alarm. The residents used to park their vehicles in the space earmarked for them.
On hearing the alarm, the residents rushed down. Within a few minutes, three vehicles were destroyed. Though the exact reason for the fire was not known, a senior police officer said the fire was due to a "short circuit". The Nungambakkam police have registered a case and are investigating, he added.
Past incidents
A few months ago, many vehicles including four-wheelers and a heavy vehicle were destroyed in a fire in the Vadapalani residential area. The police initially ruled out sabotage and claimed that it could be some short circuit, but subsequently nabbed a ragpicker in the locality who had allegedly committed the crime.
