NCP to support Congress nominee

Panaji: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), a key member of the ruling coalition at the Centre, on Wednesday said it would support a Congress nominee for the presidential poll scheduled for July.

"The UPA constituents have decided that the Congress should select its (Presidential) nominee which will be supported by all allies," NCP president Sharad Pawar said while interacting with mediapersons here.

Whoever is UPA candidate would be the NCP's choice and the same was the party's position with regard to the Vice Presidential election, he said.

Mr. Pawar, who is in Goa to address public meetings for the June 2 Assembly polls, claimed there were a number of independents and other parties which were in a mood to support the UPA candidate for the top post.

To a question, he said there was no consensus within the BJP-led NDA on the issue. — PTI
