Centre ready to fund phase two of Krishna water project: YSR

Water supply to be augmented by 90 million gallons per day

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy announced on Thursday that the Centre had agreed to fund the Rs. 830-crore phase two of Krishna drinking water project which would augment water supply by 90 million gallons a day to the city.

He disclosed this during the GHMC review meeting where HMWSSB officials too were present. The water board was asked to expedite the process of daily water supply in all areas and underground sewerage network to be built covering the entire capital region.

Dr. Reddy was not happy with the progress of works on the Musi beautification project and the four flyovers under construction at Nalgonda crossroads, Chandrayanagutta, Punjagutta and Greenlands.

The July-end deadline for the first two flyovers and November deadline for the last two have to be met at any cost, he asserted.

Solid municipal waste management has to be given top priority, he noted and approved the orders issued to immediately buy dumper bins to cover all erstwhile municipalities. Four sweeping machines are being procured and more would be pressed into service in a year to replace manual sweeping.

Revenue authorities of villages of Malkapur (723 acres), Chillapur (511 acres) and Dattaipally (675 acres) in the adjoining districts of Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda and Medak are to be asked to finalise delineation of land for the dumping sites.

Traffic management

Dr. Reddy was very particular that all out efforts should be made to make traffic management more efficient by taking up road widening of important thoroughfares in the erstwhile municipalities and also in core MCH region, junction improvements, public transport, etc.

Ministers K. Ranga Rao (Municipal Administration), Mohd. Ali Shabbir (district in-charge), Mukesh Goud (B.C. Welfare), Municipal Administration Principal Secretary S.P. Singh and others participated in the meeting.
