Differences over lodging of accused

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Differences arose on Wednesday between the defence and the prosecution in the Chitralekha Urs murder trial over where one of the main accused should be lodged.

The defence wanted him in Mysore, while the prosecution argued that he should be in Bangalore to facilitate the smooth conduct of the case.

T. Madhukar, one of the three accused, submitted that he wanted to be lodged in Mysore as he faced a security threat at the Bangalore Central Prison.

The issue came up before the first fast track sessions court judge Savitri Vinayaka, who is hearing the case.

There was a delayed start to the trial on Wednesday as Madhukar was brought from Mysore to the court only around 1 p.m.

Delay

When the judge asked the reason, Special Public Prosecutor K. Janardhan said it was because of the time taken in bringing the accused from Mysore Prison.

Pending a ruling on Madhukar's plea, the court sent him back to Mysore Prison.
