BANGALORE: A two-member gang allegedly cheated a medical seat aspirant from Durg district in Chhattisgarh of Rs. 7.6 lakh in the city on Wednesday. A member of the gang has been arrested. The police said Dheeraj Singh, the kingpin of the racket, and his associate Sandeep (35), both from Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh, had advertised in that State that their firm, Icon Education Service, located here would help people get medical seats in J.S.S. College, Mysore, and Ambedkar College here. Rakeshkumar Pande, who works as Coordinator of Education Board in Chhattisgarh, approached Sandeep and gave him Rs. 7.6 lakh on Wednesday near Manipal Centre here to obtain a medical seat for his daughter Prajna Pande. But Sandeep and Dheeraj Singh were not traceable thereafter. Mr. Pande complained to the Ulsoor police, who acted quickly and apprehended Sandeep. Dheeraj Singh is at large. The police have found that the Icon Education Service was a fictitious company. It was opened a month ago and has now been closed.
