Abduction case: three get jail term

Kochi: The Ernakulam Principal Sessions Judge on Wednesday sentenced two persons to three years' rigorous imprisonment on charges of abducting a friend-turned-foe of former head of Sivagiri Mutt Swami Saswathikananda.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs.15,000 each on the accused.

The sentenced were Baji and Manoj Kumar, fourth and fifth accused respectively in the case. Swami Saswathikananda who drowned in Periyar in Aluva was arraigned as the first accused in the case.

Two other accused were absconding.

The court acquitted another accused Jayachandran. The prosecution case was that the accused had kidnapped Radhakrishnan and brought him to Kochi where he was tortured.

The accused committed the crime, demanding the manuscript of a book written by Mr. Radhakrishnan on the Swami and the documents relating to the deposit of Rs.60 lakh made by Swami Saswathikananda.
