Nine-month-old killed

NEW DELHI: In a bizarre incident, a nine-month-old boy was killed on Wednesday when a man stalking his mother allegedly fired at them after she spurned his advances at Madanpur Khadar here. According to the police, 25-year-old Usman approached Jasbina and made passes at her. When she objected, Usman allegedly fired at her in a fit of anger. The woman had a providential escape but the bullet hit her son Ashish, who was in her arms. The boy died on the spot. The accused has been arrested. The police said Usman earlier ran a dairy near the woman's house and knew her well. Her husband is a taxi driver.

NEW DELHI: A young man has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police at Prashant Vihar here on charges of involvement in cases of robbery in North-East Delhi. The police claim to have recovered a stolen mobile phone from him.

Accused Hari Dev purportedly disclosed that on May 17 he along with accomplices Lalit and Vikas robbed a man of cash, some documents and a mobile phone at Shahdara.

Hari Dev, whose father is a manager with a petrol pump at Malkaganj, had cleared his Class XII examination this year.

Held with firearm

NEW DELHI: A contractor dealing in electrical goods has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police near Safdarjung Hospital on charges of possessing illegal firearm. The police claim to have seized a 7.65-bore pistol of U.S. make and two live cartridges from him.

Acting on a tip-off that a person would come near the hospital to sell a firearm to a criminal, the police laid a trap and arrested him on Tuesday. He was identified as Shankar Gupta, who belongs to a well-to-do family living at Safdarjung Enclave.

The police have arrested Shankar under the Arms Act and investigating his suspected links with the tender mafia in the Capital.
