Anti-encroachment drive continues

2.22 acres of encroached land identified at Akkulam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Revenue officials on Wednesday identified 2.22 acres of encroached land at Akkulam and took possession of 15.5 cents at Kadakampalli village as part of the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in the district.

Thiruvananthapuram tahsildar C.R. Krishnakumar said the identification of encroached land of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) on the Kowdiar-Vellayambalam stretch will begin once the KWA produced relevant documents on Thursday.

In the Neyyattinkara taluk, 24 cents by the side of the Neyyar river in Thirupuram village were taken over by Revenue authorities.

Additional tahsilar (Neyyattinkara) Madhu Gangadhar said a comprehensive survey was being undertaken to identify encroachments. In the Chirayinkeezh taluk, notices were served on 30 roadside encroachments.

In the Nedumangad taluk, 30 roadside shops in the Palode area were identified as having been built on encroached land. Three shops near Nedumangad junction, some shops and part of a building near the taluk hospital were identified for eviction, tahsildar (Nedumangad) T.P. Subhash said.

Similarly, two shops at Pazhakutti were identified for take over.

Even though complaints were received about the encroachment by some tourist resorts in the Kallar area, no survey had yet been taken up for want of adequate staff.

A decision on this matter would be taken at the meting to be chaired by District Collector N. Ayyappan at Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, he added.
