dated June 1, 1957: TTK's concessions

The Finance Minister, Mr. T.T. Krishnamachari, announced in the Lok Sabha on May 31 that the proposed tax on railway passenger fares would not apply to the first 15 miles. He also announced the complete withdrawal of his proposed increase in excise duty on tea and coffee. The Finance Minister dropped the proposed increase in post card and inland parcels rates but announced changes in envelope rates. The new rates will be 15 naye paise for the first one and a half tolas.
