dated June 1, 1957: Kerala Ministers wed

Probably for the first time in history two members of a Cabinet got married. They were Kerala's Labour Minister, Mr. T.V. Thomas, and his colleague in the Cabinet, Miss K.R. Gowri, Revenue Minister. The wedding took place in Trivandrum at the bride's official residence on May 30 at a simple ceremony at which the octogenarian lawyer, Mr. Malloor Govinda Pillai, officiated. Communist Party workers and members of the Cabinet were among those who attended the wedding. Forty-five-year-old Mr. Thomas and 35-year-old Miss Gowri have been associated with the Communist Party for a long time, and have been members of the State Legislature since the first general elections.
