CHENNAI: Airtel has launched background scores to phone calls for its customers across Tamil Nadu. The service allows customers to choose their favourite song or instrumental piece to run as a background tune while they talk to their family and friends. The BGM (background music) can be selected from a number of tunes on the Airtel Interactive Voice Response system. The service is activated by dialling 676, following which the user has to follow instructions on the IVR. The Airtel database has over 2,000 song choices under six categories such as instrumental, top-ten, Bollywood, regional, English and natural sounds. According to Mahesh Thampi, COO, Mobile Services, Airtel, the service was another value addition that could go well with the youth.
How it works:
Once the user dials 676 and downloads a song for all calls or customise it for specific calls, tunes can be set simultaneously for up to five special callers (any GSM mobile in Chennai and Tamil Nadu). The user will have to use the service by prefixing 676 to the destination number before dialling to bring the score into play. The service can also be de-subscribed by dialling 676 and following the options. A monthly rental of Rs.25 is charged for the service, with each download costing Rs.10. Calls to 676 are at the rate of Rs.2 per minute and the BGM-enabled calls will cost Rs.2 per minute. In another development, Airtel Broadband and Telephone Services (B&TS) launched voice chat to fixed line customers across the country. The facility will allow users to talk-chat anonymously with other Airtel mobile and fixed line customers anywhere in the country. The fixed line customer should call *694 to register profile. The service comes at a monthly rental of Rs.30 and a charge of Rs.3 per minute. Under the introductory offer, there is no rental till June 30.
