Puducherry: All XI Standard students in the Government Higher Secondary Schools in Puducherry and Karaikal regions will get automatic promotion to XII Standard in the 2007-2008 academic year. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy announced this at a press conference here on Thursday. An official source told The Hindu that the automatic promotion was a direct sequel to the teachers' continued boycott of valuation of the Class XI examinations. As there was little or no time for the valuation, with the reopening of the schools being close at hand, the administration had decided to promote all students in the 43 Government schools. Chief Minister said that there would be no setback in the pass percentage in the Class XII public examinations in 2007-2008, as students here were capable of emerging successfully.
