Marginal decline in pass pecentage in Cuddalore district

Villupuram: dip in performance in the public examinations

CUDDALORE : Cuddalore district has registered a pass percentage of 69 in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate examinations. The result has gone down by one percentage point this year, compared to last year's 70 per cent.

According to C. Usha Rani, Chief Educational Officer, of the 30,636 candidates (15,600 boys and 15,036 girls) appeared for the examinations, 21,135 came out successfully (10,360 boys and 10,775 girls).

The district toppers were as follows: E. Karthikeyan (488/500) of St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School, Manjakuppam, Cuddalore, which had also the State third rank holder, S. Divya (482/500) of Aruna HSS, Eraiyur, and, K. Revathi (481/500) of St. Anne's School, Cuddalore.

In the matriculation stream, the district exceeded its previous year's performance, she said. This year it had scored 94 per cent success as against 87 per cent last year.

Of the 4,249 candidates (2,360 boys and 1,889 girls) sat for the matriculation examinations, 3,976 passed out (2,173 boys and 1,803 girls). The top rankers were: M. Abinaya (1057/1100) of St.Joseph Cluny MHSS, Neyveli, E.Balaji (1055/1100) of John Dewy MHSS, Panruti, and, H. Mangaiyarkarasi (1054/1100) of Jawahar MHSS, Neyveli.

Three schools had achieved 100 per cent results: P.R.G. Higher Secondary School, Kallakurichi, Kasturi Ammal High School, Nattarmangalam, and Oasis Special School.

Villupuram

Villupuram district has scored an average of 69.16 pass percentage in the SSLC examinations, with girls outperforming the boys.

Of the 49,046 candidates appeared for the examinations, 27,695 came out successfully. While the boys achieved 67.9 per cent success, the girls surpassed them by notching 70.4 per cent pass.

Last year, the district achieved 80.80 per cent results, whereas this year there is a steep decline in its performance to the extent of 11.64 per cent. According to P.A. Naresh, Chief Educational Officer, the district toppers in the State Board examinations were: P.S. Suganya (486 out of 500), V. Vinodhini (485/500), both from A.K.T. High School, Kallakurichi, and, A. Joslin Mary (484/500), St. Joseph's HSS, Eraiyur.

In the matriculation stream, of the 2,570 candidates appeared, 2,379 had cleared the examinations, with a pass percentage of 92.56. The rank-holders were: R. Nithya (1056/1100) of A.K.T. Mat.HSS, Kallakurichi, A. Anusuya (1051/1100) of Sri Sarada Vidayala Mat. HSS, Ulundurpet, and M. Seena Kauser (1048/1100) of A.K.T.Mat.HSS.

Under Anglo-Indian syllabus 174 of the 175 candidates passed out (99 per cent). The high scorers were: J. Suganthi de Silva (955/1000), J. Vinodhini (944/1000) and J. Priya (944/1000), S. Divya Pradha (942/1000) and P. Gayatri (942/100), all from Sacred Heart Anglo Indian School, Villupuram.

Oriental school

The top scorers from the Oriental schools with Arabic or Sanskrit as subjects are as follows: T. Parameswari (540/600) and M. Yuvarani (525/600), both from Kamakoti Oriental High School, Villupuram, and, A.M. Yacub (521/600) of Rowalat-ul-Zinnah Arabic Oriental School, Ulundurpet.

Mr. Naresh said cent per cent result was achieved by 20 schools under State Board, 26 schools in the matriculation stream and one in the Anglo-Indian stream.
