Brahmotsavam draws to a close

Staff Reporter

CURTAINS DOWN: Priests perform `Chakrasnanam' in Kapila Theertam in Tirupati on Thursday.

TIRUPATI: The annual Brahmotsavam at the TTD's Sri Govindarajaswamy temple came to a grand close with the `Dhwaja avarohanam' on Thursday.

Deities of the Lord and his consorts, the Sudarsana Chakra (the holy discus) were taken in a procession from the temple to Kapila Theertham waterfalls. Amid chanting of hymns, the `Sudarsana Chakra', one of the five weapons of the Lord, was given a holy dip in the sacred tank by priests. The deities were later taken to the Pala Raghavachary Gardens for traditional rituals.

In the evening, the idol of the Lord was taken out in the guise of `Balakrishna' (a child crawling).

As part of `Dhwaja Avarohanam' ceremony, the `Ashtadikpalakas' deputed for the divine service on day one were restored to their respective places.

Curtains came down on the nine-day festival with the furling of the holy flag from the temple flagpost (Dhwaja Sthambam).
