Staff Reporter
TIRUPATI : The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is planning to introduce `Anywhere booking' system in Tirupati in a couple of months. With this online system, the passengers will be able to book their travel from any given place to any other destination in the country, where APSRTC operates its services. The denizens of Tirupati can also book tickets from any of the five e Seva centres in Tirupati city as these centres will also be brought into the RTC network. This apart, the eleven authorised ticket booking (ATB) agents are also proposed to be brought under this network to facilitate the travelling pubic to book their tickets to any long distance route. At present, tickets can be reserved from Tirupati and Tirumala for buses starting from Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam only.
In third slot
Regional Manager of Tirupati APSRTC M.S.Prakasa Rao, who assumed office recently, told mediapersons here on Thursday that the region stood at an enviable third position in terms of revenue and traffic, next only to Hyderabad city and Ranga Reddy district. He termed the CAT card as a huge success, as it not only made travel cheaper for passengers, but also provided insurance cover in case of accidental death. "Recently, we provided Rs.2 lakh as compensation to the family of P.Venkateswara Reddy of Kuppam", he pointed out. Similarly, the corporation has introduced what is termed as a `honeymoon special' card for the benefit of newly-weds. On payment of Rs.1000, the couple could travel free on all RTC services (except A/C buses) in the State for a period of four days.
Annamayya special
All buses bound to Tirumala would be fitted with audio system to play Annamayya keertans. He said that it would be a befitting tribute to the saint-poet in a year which had been declared by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams as `Year of Annamacharya'. Citing the recent agitation by MRPS activists that had left six buses damaged in the district, Mr.Rao noted that the same had been withdrawn from the road for carrying out repairs and appealed to the agitators not to inconvenience commuters and public by targeting the RTC fleet.
