ONGOLE: The Municipal Council here on Thursday passed a resolution to condole the death of former councillor, Nimmakayala Koteswaramma, under peculiar circumstances. Even as TDP councillors squatted on the floor and raised slogans over an issue, the Congress councillors stood up, observed silence for two minutes and the council meeting was adjourned. The enraged TDP councillors tried to gherao chairman Bapatla Hanumantha Rao but in vain. Te chairman made his way from the other end. TDP leader Jada Koteswara Rao wanted the officials to lay the pipeline for discharging drain water from west to east in Karavadi donka. But they turned down his proposal on the plea that they had constructed a drain from south to north to carry drainage water from the area into Pothurajukalava. Mr Koteswara Rao threatened to resign if the officials proved him wrong. As the officials stood their ground, TDP councillors squatted on the floor and raised slogans. At this stage, Congress floor leader Rajasekhar moved condolence motion. Amid the uproar, the Congress councillors observed silence and chairman adjourned the meeting.
