Chikungunya: co-operation of private hospitals sought

Urged to open special wards for treating viral fever patients


  • Special medical camps organised at Ranni-Perinad, Naranammoozhy, Chittar, Vechoochira and Koodal
  • Fever Containment Cell will provide logistic support to the medical and para-medical staff



    PRESSING MATTER: Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy addressing a meeting of MLAs and representatives of various private hospitals and nursing schools at the Collectorate conference hall here on Thrusday.

    PATHANAMTHITTA: Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy has called upon private hospitals in the chikungunya-affected districts to join hands with the Government in the ongoing drive against the viral fever.

    The Minister was addressing a meeting of MLAs and representatives of various private hospitals and nursing schools in the district at the Collectorate conference hall here on Thrusday.

    She requested the private hospitals to open special wards for treating patients suffering from viral fever and to extend free treatment to them, besides extending service of their doctors and nursing staff to the fever-hit areas.

    Mr. Sreemathy said the Pushpagiri Medical College in Thiruvalla had agreed to provide the service of eight doctors and 10 nurses in the fever-hit hilly areas in the district from Friday. She said various nursing schools in the district too would be providing the service of 10 nurses in the fever-hit panchayats.

    The Health Department has organised special medical camps at Naranammoozhy, Ranni-Perinad, Chittar, Vechoochira and Koodal on Thursday.

    Meanwhile, the Fever Containment Cell headed by the Rural Health Mission Director, Dr. Dinesh Arora, has designed a reporting format to collect data of fever patients at various private hospitals in the district. The Health department has issued the format to the representatives of various private hospitals who attended the meeting.

    The Fever Containment Cell will provide logistic support to the medical and para-medical staff provided by the private hospitals, she said.

    The Minister also pointed out that the doctors, appointed as Snehithan/ Snehitha, under the NRHM for rural service, who failed to join duty would not be given their medical registration certificate.

    Dr. Arora said a total of 123 newly selected Junior Health Inspectors were deployed in the viral fever-affected areas of Seethathode, Chittar, Vadasserikkara, Ranni, Koodal, Thannithode, Enadimangalam, Naranamoozhy 13, Vechoochira 13.

    He said the Fever Containment Cell at Pathanmthitta had stocked one lakh parcetamol tablets as on Thursday.

    The Minister said the Government also decided to observe a total sanitation week in the State from June 5 to 12.

    Raju Abraham, K.C. Rajagopalan, Joseph M. Puthusserry, MLAs, Dr T.K. Kuttumony, Director of Health Services, Mr Ashok Kumar Singh, District Collector and the District Medical Officer, N. Damodaran, also attended the meeting.
