CHENNAI: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has warned unapproved new technical institutions against starting admission procedures for 2007-08, without getting its approval and that of the affiliating university. "It has been brought to our notice that such institutions that have not yet been approved by the AICTE (but only have a letter of intent issued by us) have advertised in leading dailies in and around Salem for admission to their engineering courses. All such institutions are cautioned to stop such illegal advertisement for admission, otherwise AICTE will initiate stern action against such defaulting institutes," a press release from the Regional Officer, Southern Regional Office, AICTE, said. The AICTE has also warned the people and students to verify the approval status of institutions before seeking admissions. Any further clarifications can be had from the SRO at Shastri Bhavan, 26, Haddows Road, Nungambakkam.
