Call for all-party meet on `land deal'

Correspondent

Kakinada: The district unit of the CPI (M) has called for an all-party meeting on June 2 at the Ambedkar Bhavan here to discuss the encroaching of municipal land by powerful landlords in the Relli street of Ragampet in the town.

Dadala Subbarao, CPI(M) district secretary, told newsmen here on Thursday, that 6.22 acres of municipal land, partly allotted to poor Relli community people in 1974 and the balance area used for municipal sullage pumping yard, was now being encroached upon by one landlord claiming that it was purchased by him in 1994.

Expressing concern over the move of the land lord to evict poor people from the site for which pattas were given to them in 1974, Mr Subbarao alleged that municipal officials were hand in glove with the landlord and misplaced the records.
