Two killed, four injured in road accident

Belgaum: Two persons died on the spot and four were injured in an accident involving a jeep on the Pune-Bangalore four-lane express highway (NH4) near Benoli village under Kakti Police station limits in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Ridhi Hitendra Mehta (19) and Preeti Prakash Katve. The inured persons are Hitendra Mehta, Jyoti Hitendra Mehta, Vidhi Hitendra Mehta and Rajesh Hitendra Mehta, all of whom have been admitted to KLE Hospital in the city.

Three killed

Three persons were killed in an accident involving a truck and another vehicle near the Markandeya bridge under the Kakti Police Station limits on Wednesday.

According to the police, the deceased are: Iqbal Ahmed Sheriff (60) of Arsekere in Hassan district and Balasab Eshwar Jadhav Jeergihal (32) of Sangli district in Maharashtra, who were travelling in the truck. A 25-year-old youth in the other vehicle also died. The police are yet to ascertain his identity. The police said the truck travelling from Arsekere to Sangli rammed into the other vehicle, which was parked, from behind.

Driver of the truck Chidanand Seetaram Kore and owner M.K. Salim Pasha were injured and have been admitted to a private hospital here in the city.

A case has been registered. According to the police, the driver of the jeep lost control over the vehicle. A case has been registered.
