Goud flays State

HYDERABAD: TDP leader T. Devender Goud on Thursday opposed the Government's move to initiate work on the Dummugudem project aimed at diverting Godavari water to Nagarjunasagar Tail Pond, saying it will turn Telangana region into a "desert." Vehicle stolen

KURNOOL: Unidentified persons who hired a Tata Scorpio made away with the vehicle after threatening the driver at knifepoint. When the vehicle reached Kodumur, they diverted it towards Veldurthi and threw out the driver and escaped with it. - Special Correspondent

Doordarshan DTH

HYDERABAD: Doordarshan's direct-to-home (DTH), presently given on NSS-6, is being shifted to INSAT 4B at 93.5 degrees East on June 1. Hyderabad DD Kendra said DD Direct households have to follow the procedure mentioned in the manual for shifting services to another satellite. DA payment

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Progressive Recognised Teachers Union has demanded immediate sanction of 5.652 per cent DA with effect from January 1 this year in tune with the Central announcement. P. Jewellery shop burgled

KADAPA: Burglars broke into Hyder Jewellers in Rajampet town in the wee hours of Thursday and decamped with 24 pairs of ear studs valued at Rs. 1 lakh.The miscreants broke open two locks of the shutters to gain entry, according to Rajampet Urban Circle Inspector Ramana. They fled the shop when a watchman spotted them and enquired about their whereabouts. — Staff Reporter

Man murdered

KADAPA: Thirty-five-year-old A. Anjaneyulu was brutally murdered near Thangedupalle cross roads in Veerapunayunipalle mandal on Wednesday.

The assailants poured acid on his face and stabbed in several parts. Veerapunayunipalle Sub-Inspector Parthasarathi Reddy registered a case.— Staff Reporter

Woman run over

KADAPA: An unidentified 40-year-old woman was run over near Seshaiahgaripalle village in Chennur mandal on Thursday. Clad in a red sari and blue blouse, the body bore the names - Bibamma and Nagalakshammama - tattoed on her hand, according to the police. Chennur Police registered a case.— Staff Reporter

Inter-caste wedding performed

KADAPA: The police performed an inter-caste marriage of Y. Anuradha (Reddy by caste) and V. Ramanjaneyulu (Vaddera), both of Garladinne village in Anantapur district, in Rajampet Urban police station on Thursday. Man dies after consuming toddy

KURNOOL: A man identified as H. Sunkanna (40) allegedly died after consuming toddy at Bhaskarapuram in Jupadu Bungalow of Kurnool district. A case was registered.
