HYDERABAD: The Delimitation Commission notification issued on Wednesday has changed the face of over 150 existing assembly constituencies either by the way of reservation, de-reservation or change of name, inclusion and deletion of mandals. The exercise has ensured that the number of Assembly and parliamentary constituencies would remain the same at 294 and 42, respectively, but is all set to rewrite the fate of a Cabinet Minister, and several political leaders. In place of 63 existing Assembly segments and seven LS constituencies that have been abolished, an equal number of new constituencies have come into existence. The number of SC segments went up from 39 to 48 and those for STs from 15 to 19. Delimitation notification has enabled creation of new LS constituencies such as Zaheerabad, Malkajgiri, Bhongir, Chevella, Mahabubabad, Araku and Vizianagaram in place of Siddipet, Hanamkonda, Miryalaguda, Bhadrachalam, Parvatipuram and Bobilli. Consequent to the notification, the number of Assembly segments in Andhra has come down to 123 from 134 and in Rayalaseema from 53 to 52. Telangana is the major beneficiary with the number of segments going up to 119 from the existing 107. Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts together will have a total of 29 constituencies. The notification puts a question mark on the fate of several Ministers in the Rajasekhara Reddy Cabinet as some constituencies have been abolished while others have been reserved or deserved. Those affected by the SC reservations are N. Raghuveera Reddy (Madaksira), Md. Fareeduddin (Zaheerabad), Sabitha Indra Reddy (Chevella), R. Damodar Reddy (Thungathurthy) and Shatrucharla Vijayarama Rao (Parvatipuram). Ministers K. Jana Reddy (Chalakurthy), J. Ratnakar Rao (Buggaram), Gollapalli Surya Rao (Allavaram), Anam Ramnarayan Reddy (Rapur), Jakkampudi Rammohan Rao (Kadiam) and M. Venkatramana Rao (Kuchinapudi) will lose their segments. The SC Ministers' whose segments have become general are: J. Geetha Reddy (Gajwel), Sambhani Chandrasekhar (Palair) and M. Mareppa (Alur). The SC parliamentary constituencies rose from six to seven, the beneficiary being Telangana region. The ST Lok Sabha seats increased from two to three. The SC parliamentary constituencies are: Peddapalli, Nagarkurnool, Amalapuram, Bapatla, Tirupati, Chittoor and Warangal. The ST seats are Adilabad, Araku and Mahabubabad. Union Ministers like S. Jaipal Reddy (Miryalaguda) have to search for a new seat after abolition of the constituency. D. Purandareswari (Bapatla) may have to shift to some other seat as the constituency has been reserved for SCs, while Nellore (SC) represented by Union Minister Panabaka Lakshmi becomes general.
