Panel formed for lighting monuments

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A high-level committee has been constituted to evolve a plan for illuminating monuments in the Capital during the 2010 Commonwealth Games here.

At a meeting of stakeholders on Wednesday that included the Delhi Government's Power Department, the Archaeological Survey of India, the Public Works Department and the Delhi Development Authority, INTACH Delhi chapter convenor M.G.K. Menon was appointed head of the high-level committee that will look at promoting Delhi as a heritage city. "There is a proposal to light up monuments in the city during the Commonwealth Games, though electrification of some monuments is currently on. We will wait for the committee to identify the monuments that can be illuminated during the period," said Principal Secretary (Power) Rakesh Mehta.

"Panel will prepare a plan that will include details about parking facilities for visitors, provisions for public utilities and also work out the finer points for organising heritage walks," he said.
