GUNTUR: State Government will launch Rajiv Swagruha programme in two or three districts within a fortnight Minister for Housing Botcha Satyanarayana announced during a press conference here on Thursday. About 8,806 acres of land was needed for the implementation of the scheme meant for middle income group persons in the urban and rural areas for which 2.5 lakh people had applied and of them 1.75 lakh were from cities and municipal towns, he told reporters after a review meeting of the housing activity in the district. Land had been identified in 12 districts, while it was in the process in three other districts, the Minister said dispelling the doubts that the project might not take off as acquisition of land could take a lot of time. "We will go for apartment complexes, wherever land was not available in abundance and a mix of both individual and apartments depending on the affordability of the beneficiaries," the Minister added.
Applications
Pointing out that out of about 13,000 applications in Guntur 6,826 were from Mangalagiri alone, he said that the Government might go in for a mix of apartments and individual houses and option given to the applicants to choose one. Out of the 16.98 lakh Indiramma houses in the State only 4.47 lakh were completed, but about 5 lakh would be completed by the end of July he added and said that about 3.2 lakh houses could not be grounded as the land for these houses was disputed and involved in legal battles in the courts.
Indiramma houses
Commenting on the poor pace of land acquisition Indiramma housing project in the district, he asked the revenue divisional officers and MROs to concentrate on this aspect and make a report available to the District Collector and DM Housing within a week. Endowment lands being occupied by some people had come in way of acquisition, the officials said.
Training
The number of executing officials had been increased with a number of work inspectors recruited in some districts, 500 Nirmithi Kendras being set up for supply of bricks and door frames, training for 38,000 masons being taken up to meet the shortage of skilled personnel at the Government cost. Payment was also being taken up through Mahila Samakhyas in one village in each mandal on a pilot basis and in the others payment would be made stage wise every Saturday and Monday, he observed. The District Collector G. Jayalakshmi, Minister for Transport Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, Minister for Ports and Investments Mopidevi Venkata Ramana were present at the review meeting.
