ANANTAPUR: The issuance of final notification on the reorganisation of Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies by the Delimitation Commission has confirmed the inevitable -- migration of several key politicians in the district, including Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy, whose home constituency Madakasira has been reserved for SCs. The exercise will have an indelible impact on the fate of several sitting and former legislators and other aspirants. As of now, there is little likelihood of the changes being implemented for the general elections slated for 2009. Though there is no change in the number of total Assembly (14) and Lok Sabha (2) constituencies in the district, the reorganisation has effected several significant changes in the geographical limits of all constituencies and also reorganised the set up. Three existing Assembly constituencies -- Gooty, Nallamda and Gorantla will remain mere mandal headquarters now as they have been either renamed or merged with other existing or newly proposed constituencies. Guntakal, Puttaparthi and Rapthadu would be the three new constituencies. As the Madakasira constituency stands reserved for SCs in the reorganisation, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy may have no option but to migrate to either Hindupur or Rayadurg or Kalyanadurg constituencies. His rivals in TDP may also have no other go but search for a new base. Similarly, N. Kistappa and P. Raghunatha Reddy of TDP and P. Ravindra Reddy and K. Mohan Reddy of the Congress may also have to be forced to migrate due to non-existence of Gorantla and Nallamada constituencies. They will have options of Puttaparthi and Kadiri. The family of K. Suryapratap Reddy, which has been eyeing Dharmavaram constituency, will have to chose another option as their strongholds -- Yellanuru and Putluru mandals presently in Dharamvaram, have been merged with Singanamala (SC) constituency. The change is likely to benefit the Congress in Singanamala. The reorganisation is also likely to benefit TDP in Penukonda, Uravakonda and Dharmavaram constituencies and the Congress in Kadiri. The reorganisation is likely to have either little or no impact on Rayadurg, Hindupur, Tadipatri, Kalyanadurg and Madakasira in terms of benefit to a particularly party.
