Fake ceiling fans unit raided, one held

BERHAMPUR: The police raided a unit allegedly involved in making fake ceiling fans of a reputed brand on Thursday.

Many fans with `Polar' brand name were seized from a shop near the old bus stand owned by Pradeep Nayak of Sashtrinagar. Raids were also conducted on his workshop where fake fans were allegedly being manufactured. Nayak was arrested.

Addressing a press conference, Berhampur Superintendent of Police Dayal Gangwar said the raid was a sequel to the complaint from officials of the popular company that duplicate fans were being manufactured and sold with their brand name in the city.

The accused person was allegedly acquiring cheap ceiling fans from Kolkata for some Rs. 450 per unit. He was then replacing the metal monograms and plastic components of the fans with fake monograms and plastic units of `Polar' brand fans. The fans were being packed in cardboard boxes mentioning them as `Polar' fans. Nayak reportedly confessed to committing the crime.

During the last three months, the city police unearthed many fake products manufacturing and trading units. They included fake milk powder and baby food manufacturing unit, fake cow ghee manufacturing unit, large haul of fake pouches of premier 'zarda' brands and even fake `bidi' trading unit.
