Lucknow: The Mayawati Government is all set to start work on the bird sanctuary to be developed on the Benti pond of the controversial Independent legislator Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya at Kunda in Pratapgarh district. The sprawling pond was acquired during the BSP-BJP coalition regime headed by Mayawati in 2002 for developing a bird sanctuary.
Decision
However, later on the Mulayam Singh Yadav regime had stopped the work and reversed the decision of the BSP-BJP Government soon after it assumed power in 2003. ``There exists a bird sanctuary there. It will be developed,'' Principal Secretary, Forest, V.N. Garg said here on Thursday. ``We are in the process of developing it.'' The decision to acquire the pond had raised much hue and cry and even a section of the BJP had vehemently opposed the decision then.- PTI
