Six Bangladesh nationals held

Staff Reporter

A team has been sent to Dehra Dun to search houses of the accused

NEW DELHI: Six Bangladesh nationals allegedly involved in cases of dacoity have been arrested by the Special Staff of the South Delhi police at Sainik Farms here. The police claim to have seized two firearms and live cartridges from them.

The South Delhi police had in a joint operation with their Madhya Pradesh counterparts earlier arrested some Bangladesh nationals in connection with cases of dacoity at Ujjain, Devas, Bhopal and Indore in Madhya Pradesh. But several of their accomplices remained at large as they had fled to Bangladesh.

A Special Staff team led by Inspector Rajender Singh recently mounted surveillance on the suspects and found that some of them had set up base at Dehra Dun and were committing crimes in Delhi. A team was despatched to Dehra Dun to trace them. The police learnt that the criminals had left for Delhi to commit a crime. Acting on a tip-off that they would assemble at a vacant plot in Sainik Farms to break into a bungalow, the police mounted a raid and arrested six of them on Tuesday night. They were identified as Kamal, Zakir, Alam, Saleem, Montu and Mehboob, all residents of Bagerhut in Bangladesh.

During interrogation, the accused purportedly disclosed that they crossed over to West Bengal through the Benapaul border about a month ago through an agent named Jayant. They then went to a place near Dehra Dun and created a base there. The police said there were about 10 cases of dacoity registered in Madhya Pradesh against some members of the gang. A team has been sent to Dehra Dun to conduct searches in the houses of the accused.
