ADILABAD: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Wednesday strongly objected to diversion of Godavari waters to Krishna river via the Dummugudem project. The party maintained that this was yet another example of the Congress Government led by Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy meting out injustice to the Telangana region. At a press conference here, party senior leader S. Venugopalachary said by constructing the Nagarjunasagar tail-pond the Government was intending to get additional 4.3 lakh acres under irrigation. However, the tail-pond would be filled with waters diverted from the Godavari river. This only promoted regional conflict, he added.
Yellampalli project
Mr. Venugopalachary said his party was going to take up an agitational programme in June for early commencement of work on the Yellampalli project. The project will bring more land in Luxettipet, Chennur, Asifabad and Sirpur areas under irrigation.
IIT Basar
On the issue of IIT at Basar, the TDP leader said a Central team is slated to study suitability of Basar in Adilabad and Kandi in Medak for setting up the premier institution. The team will arrive in second week of June.
