    MAHABUBNAGAR: A horticulture college would be established at Palem village in the district, according to Minister for Agriculture Raghuveera Reddy.

    Addressing a `Rythu Chaitanya Yatra' at Kalwarala village in remote Pangal mandal on Wednesday, the Minister said that the Government has decided to set up a veterinary university and a horticulture university besides three horticulture colleges in the State. Of these, one college would come up in Mahabubnagar district.

    The Minister said that Government was providing quality seed to the farmers on 50 per cent

    subsidy and urged the farming community not to purchase seed from unauthorised dealers. The dealers were asked to obtain receipts for their purchase of seeds and other requirements.

    Subsidies

    Mr.Raghuveera Reddy informed that the Government has allocated Rs. 250 crore for purchase of best variety cattle which would be provided to farmers on subsidy. He also said Rs. 30 crore were earmarked for the sheep insurance scheme. The Government was spending Rs. 22,000 crore for the welfare of farmers this year and Rs. 17,600 crore will be provided as loans to farmers through banks. The Minister ordered for suspension of Srinivas Reddy, Kollapur horticulture officer following complaints by farmers.
