"Meditation did improve students' learning skill"

20 schools secure 100 per cent results in Perambalur In the Matriculation stream, the district managed 96.72 per cent results

PERAMBALUR: The district registered a pass percentage of 79.76 in the SSLC public examinations,the results of which were published on Thursday.

Of the total 15,889 candidates who appeared for the exams (boys 8,185 and girls 7,704), as many as 12,673 (boys 6,443 and girls 6,230) came out successful. Girls fared better than boys, registering a higher pass percentage. While 80.87 per cent of girls came out successful, 78.72 per cent of boys passed the examinations.

The Government schools recorded 74 per cent results, the Government Adi Dravida Welfare schools managed 72 per cent, aided-schools recorded 96 per cent and unaided schools 95 per cent, according to the Chief Educational Officer, C. Vijayalakshmi.

R. Vignesh of Raja Vignesh Higher Secondary School, Melamathur, secured 487 marks to get the top rank in the district. M. Shadham Hussain also of Raja Vignesh HSS and L. Manikandan of Government Boys HSS, Sendurai, tallied 482 marks each to finish joint second in the district. K. Krishnaveni of Nehru HSS, Eraiyur, was third with 480 marks.

The Headmaster of Raja Vignesh HSS, T. Navaneedhakrishnan, said that apart from academic curricula, the school imparted special skills in meditation to improve the pupils' learning capabilities.

The Zonal Commissioner and Secretary to School Education, M. Kutralingam, honoured the students with special prizes.

A total of 20 schools — Government schools 5, aided schools 7 and unaided schools 8 — have secured 100 per cent success.

Matriculation exams

In the Matriculation stream, the district managed 96.72 per cent results. Of the 731 boys and girls who appeared for the exams, 707 have come out successful. P. Madhan Varma of St. Joseph's Matriculation HSS, Perambalur, was the district topper in the matriculation exams with a marks tally of1,047 marks. R. Ashwin of Vidya Mandir Matriculation School, Alathiyur and R. Arun Raj of Montfort Matriculation HSS, Ariyalur got 1,046 and 1,039 to finish district second and third respectively.

A total of 15 matriculation schools achieved 100 per cent result.
